"We didn’t just sell our products, we pioneered the business, changed the face of it with our innovative and high-quality product", Says Jayesh Patel - Chairman - Lemit Papers

LEMIT PAPERS LLP is established by the L group of companies from Morbi, Gujarat. L group of companies which is a pioneer in the ceramic industry is one of the major and well-regarded players in the Indian ceramic market. After taking over the Ceramic industry, as part of our expansion of business we have stepped into the paper industry with a vision is to serve the most superlative quality and yet the most sustainable, eco-friendly paper products. We intend to be the new benchmark in paper industry not just in India but all around the globe.

Recently, The Pulp and Paper Times got an opportunity to talk with Mr. Jayesh Patel, Chairman of Lemit Papers about their massive expansion in duplex board segment, here is his full Interview:

Gujarat | September 2021 | The Pulp and Paper Times:

Q: It has come to our knowledge that Lemit Group is entering into packaging board paper manufacturing, please elaborate on your expansion plan.

It is but a well-known fact that L-Group is regarded across the globe for its finest quality and reliability. With the new venture under the brand name of LEMIT PAPERS, we have only changed or added what we can offer as a product; our Business Model remains the same. Our team through in-depth market research identified the high demand of high-quality Duplex Papers, and of course its scope for the business. Lemit Papers will produce top-grade Coated Duplex Board in white and grey back and will have a production capacity of 450 TPD, owing to our ultra-modern European machineries and the 2nd largest Paper Mill in all of Gujarat. Our extensive study and understanding of the needs of the market and the ever-changing trends of around the world, has already equipped us with the kind of knowledge which will support us to address the demands and always fulfill them, while staying true to the brands promise.

Q: Tissue Paper is the fastest-growing segment in the paper industry, and the Gujarat region doesn’t have much capacity in tissue paper production as well. What factors does Lemit consider in its decision for packaging board production instead of another paper segment?

We have acknowledged the scope and requirement of Tissue Paper and we do understand that Gujarat does not produce much of tissue paper but our goal is to enter into the market with a highly demandable product, capture the market and, of course, Lemit Papers has not limited itself and will certainly look into the possibilities to serve other products into the market in the near future. We wanted to target a product which has a role in all other major industries. For example, packaging boards are in high demand in FMCG, Pharmaceutical, food and beverages packaging industry, cosmetic industry, textile packaging etc

Q: Gujarat is being penetrated with packaging board capacities, huge investments and mega capacities are coming up in the duplex paper board segment. How would you take this competition in terms of Quality and Marketing?

Competition is good. In fact, a healthy competition always will encourage to be on our toes, to constantly look to come up with the best, it gives us a chance to retrospect ourselves and gives us the opportunity to use all available resources to its best. Ultimately, we end up with better quality products at economical prices.  We at Lemit Papers believe whenever there is competition, there are possibilities that market size also grows with it. When we entered into the ceramic industry in 2005, there were only 200 ceramic manufacturing units, today there are more than 1300 ceramic units in and around Morbi. We didn’t just sell our products, we pioneered the business, changed the face of it with our innovative and high-quality product. If we stay true to our roots i.e., the business policies which aided us to grow as a world-renowned brand, there is no reason why those same principles will not work again with Lemit Papers.

Q: Lemit has engaged elite paper technology suppliers, on what parameters do you stand out from others in terms of technology? Please describe.

We have envisioned a set-up of state-of-art plant with top-grade machinery and technology to serve the best quality duplex board in the market. We have sourced our machinery from various top notch machinery suppliers of the paper industry. We sourced Pulp Mill and Approach flow from KadantLamort, France, Paper Machine from QinyangPing’an light Industry Machinery, China. Hot Dispensers will be sourced from Cellwood Machinery, Sweden and IQ scanner will be supplied by Valmet Global.

Q: what growth perspective do you predict in the packaging board for the next five years?

As we all are aware, Indian government is taking strong steps towards a sustainable environment, soon there will be a ban on single-use plastics, promoting recyclable eco-friendly and green energy products. We believe the paper industry will have a billion-dollar market in India and there will be an upward trend for at least a decade in the packaging board industry. Continuous research and development will lead to new innovative technology and products in paper industry.

Q: How would you evaluate the Export market? Especially when the COVID pandemic has grappled the world, logistics cost is surging.

Every industry has ups and downs and the paper industry is no exception. Yes, COVID pandemic has affected business worldwide, but we all will get through this, we have learned a lot through this Covid time and started implementing new strategies in order to continue the growth of our businesses. Logistic cost has surged but it will settle down soon, there will be light at the end of tunnel. We believe there are a lot more opportunities in export than ever before. Especially with our improved ties with Governments around the world, India will be the next manufacturing and supplying hub for the paper market globally.

Q: Post lockdown, Raw material procurement (waste paper) has become a major issue for paper manufacturers. How will you ensure the consistency of your supply chain once the production gets started, do you think that domestic waste paper price will touch again to pre lockdown level in 2022?

Shortage of raw material has created chaos world over, especially after the second wave of Covid-19. We have a very well-experienced procurement team, who will ensure continuous supply of quality and quantity of raw material in a timely manner. We will be procuring waste paper from local as well as international suppliers. We also have planned to setup our offices abroad in order to deal with supplier directly in foreign countries. I strongly believe that domestic waste paper prices will go down once schools reopen and work from home gets over in major corporate companies in India. And we can already see some of those happening with calculated reopening in different facets.

Q: Any other views you want to mention for our readers.

Lemit Papers is all about the resolve to deliver the best, the values which have held closer through our rise in ranks as a reliable business group. We mean to keep to our trusted ways of doing business and eventually be the most reliable name in the Paper Industry.
